Mayor Daley gets attention for his environmental initiatives, ponders bodyguards for city employees and is remembered lovingly by an Illinois State Senator
DALEY NEWS
As most people have dilligently gotten back to work today, so has our Mayor Daley. Thus he won't be seen anywhere about town, at least not for the indulgence of the press.
Allow us a trip down memory lane to remember the first time (on our watch) that the Mayor was absent from the public scene.

Chicago's green programs, long championed by the Mayor, have received coverage in the Financial Post. More about Chicago's CEO (Chief Environmetal Officer) however, the mention of Daley is scant:
"As CEO of the third largest city in the United States, Sadhu Johnston is responsible for implementing Mayor Richard M. Daley's environmental initiatives across city government."
- Thanks to the Sun-Times' Fran Spielman, we are able to keep track of all sorts of thorny city issues. One such issue is the assignment of Chicago police officers to the bodily protection of Aldermen and other dignitaries. Policemen are currently still being detailed to this duty in 2008 and Fran reminds us:
"[In 2006] Mayor Daley and then-First Deputy Police Supt. Dana Starks promised a broader review of a perk long viewed as little more than a valet service."
- There is a new Illinois State Senate President in town (that town being Springfield) and his name is John J. Cullerton. A prominent Chicago figure in his own right, the Senator has some interesting recollections of Mayor Daley, as reported in the Sun-Times:
"...John Cullerton entered state politics in 1978, when he won a seat in the Illinois House. He did not take long to run afoul of Mayor Daley, then a state senator. Cullerton liked drawing laughs with his comedic impersonations. During a 1979 event, he imitated Daley's father, the late mayor. Daley later confronted Cullerton. "He called me over and said he'd heard about these impersonations, and he didn't take it as a compliment. I said I wouldn't do it anymore," Cullerton said. "I don't think the mayor's still holding that grudge."

Thanks so much for your comment Patrick. I assume it was meant as a question? I definitely have no shortage of opinions.
Not sure what you're asking though. As you asking if I feel Mayor Daley employs clout to get what he wants? The answer is of course he does.
Are you asking what I think of his performance overall? If so, I'm not going to make it easy on you. You'll have to read some more of the past posts to get an idea of that :-)
